What is Secure Customer Authentication? Why does my bank require it?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new European requirement that is designed to reduce fraud and make online and contactless offline payments more secure.

This is designed to keep you, the purchaser safe when shopping online. It now requires customers to perform an extra check when making a purchase to confirm their identity.
To do this, your bank may ask you to do one of the following:

1) Enter something only they will know - for example, a PIN or password set up on their banking account
2) A check through a possession - for example, sending a text message, using a card reader or another device with a one-time password
3) A physical check - for example, a fingerprint check or facial recognition through a device

If you have any questions regarding SCA or are having some issues checking out, please drop us a message via live chat or email: hello@kidly.co.uk and one of the team will be on hand to help
